Isola Bella is a symbol of the city of Taormina. Picturesque and charming, the island retains even today its beauty and charm. The first historical mention of the island dates back to 1806, when King Ferdinand I transferred the island to the city of Taormina. Then Florence Trevelyan, about whom we have already told, bought the island from the municipality. Lady Trevelyan, known for her love for the beautiful, has turned the island into a beautiful garden of tropical plants. Today, this flora mixed with the Mediterranean and formed a unique unique ensemble. Florence also built a small house on the island, in which she rested in the summer heat. After the death of Lady Trevelyan, the island fell into neglect. He experienced a second youth after being bought by the Bosuri Messina family, a major industrialist. He built a new beautiful home on the island, which looked very organically among the lush vegetation of the island. In 1982, the owner’s company went bankrupt, and the island was auctioned off. He again came to a deplorable state, becoming the target of vandals. In 1990, the island acquired the Cultural Heritage Department. In 1998, the island was declared a nature reserve and came under the leadership of WWF, and again turned into a truly heavenly place. The house on the island in 2011 was turned into the Isola Bella Regional Museum of Nature. It is open to the public for a fee of 4 euros per person every day, except Mondays from 9 am to an hour before sunset.
