And now a little more. We arrived in Japan on Sunday, but our working meetings were scheduled for the next day. Therefore, we went for a walk through one of the most mysterious cities in the world – Tokyo. The city impressed us with its unique color and a multitude of technological achievements.
On the first day we had an interesting meeting with Yahoo! The company is one of the largest Internet portals in Japan, a joint venture of the American Internet company Yahoo! and the Japanese Softbank. The largest stake is owned by SoftBank, which we will visit later. Yahoo! Japan combines a search engine, free email service, news site and online auction. Yahoo! Japan is the most popular online resource in Japan. The group talked to the deputy marketing director and received answers on how the company manages to lead and what methods are used by marketers in Japan for various Internet resources.
Immediately after Yahoo! we went to the office of DoCoMo. The largest Japanese mobile operator, as of April 2015, the number of subscribers exceeds 60 million people. The name is officially an abbreviation of the phrase “do communications over the mobile network”, as well as a complex Japanese word dokomo, meaning “everywhere”. The company talked about communication technologies and network standards used in Japan. The company also presented new developments in the 5G field, showed the future of the mobile market and how our world would change in 10 to 20 years. Today, the group first talked with artificial intelligence, the Papper robot and talked on the phone of the future, which is wearing the finger.
We could not miss the main leader, SoftBank. This is a Japanese telecommunications and media corporation operating in the field of broadband access, conventional and mobile telephony, marketing, finance, etc. The third largest cellular operator in Japan after NTT docomo and au (KDDI). Under the SoftBank brand, there are more than 600 companies in the telecommunications market. Founded in Tokyo on September 3, 1981. In 1996, the company invested $ 1 million in Yahoo !, which in three years brought $ 3 billion.
Our second day was completely devoted to the cultural program of Tokyo, its unusual places, and ended on the main square, where you could skimp on 10 storey electronics supermarkets, 6-storey bookstores and multi-brand shopping malls.
The next day we leave the capital of Japan, and flew to the multimillion-dollar Beijing, the capital of the largest state in terms of population.
On Thursday, we had a meeting with the vice president of marketing at Xiaomi. A company that 5 years ago conquered the Chinese market with cheap but high-quality products. On August 16, 2010, Xiaomi officially launched the first MIUI firmware based on Android. The following year, the first Mi1 phone appeared, based on Android, combining Samsung TouchWiz and Apple iOS corporate styles. The group was amazed at how, without offline marketing, the company was able to win 6% of the mobile device market.
The representative of Xiaomi told how they created their fan club, how they use it to promote their products. We also learned that out of 8,000 employees of the company, 3,000 work in a call center and collect requests from customers for the improvement of their products. If the improvement complies with the principles of the company, then in the next version of the software or phone it is implemented. Today, the company produces the Mi Note Pro, the most desirable smartphone for all IT, a range from low-cost to prestigious phones, tablets, the highest quality portable chargers, segways, smart home, etc. In the near future, the company plans to go beyond China, to the US market, Brazil and Russia.
After the Chinese miracle, we went to the Huawei showroom. It is one of the largest Chinese companies in the field of information and communication technologies. Founded in 1987 by a former member of the People’s Liberation Army of China, Ren Zhenfei.
The company is the absolute leader in the supply of telecommunications equipment for mobile operators in China and one of the leaders in the world. The company owns its own phone brands and has a division that works together with the Japanese company DoCoMo / SoftBank in the development of 5G standards and the means of communication of the future.
Our evening ended in a Chinese restaurant with exclusive places to watch Chinese theater performances.
The last day of our program began with a visit to Chinese Google. The Chinese company BaiDu, which provides web services, the main one of which is a search engine with the same name – the leader among Chinese search engines. By the number of requests processed, the Baidu search site ranks 2nd in the world (with a share in the global search
At the end of the visit, the group went outside the city. There was our last point – the Great Wall of China. A great creation of a great nation. The part of the wall on which we stayed had no beginning or end. Along the mountain ranges were fortified walls and towers. The number of tourists off scale. It was a beautiful end, which was strengthened by a traditional Peking duck in a furnace in the best restaurant in the city.
On this our tour ended. Each participant, as always, has a lot of positive impressions, a lot of interesting ideas for implementation, and, of course, invaluable contacts, which, undoubtedly, will be useful for further development.
