Adenoids, or adenoid vegetations – is a pathological proliferation of the pharyngeal tonsil, located in the nasopharynx. In the overwhelming majority of cases, the disease occurs in children aged 3-7 years, a child older than 8-10 years faces it much less often, and in isolated cases adenoids are detected in adults. Treatment of adenoids in children with folk remedies is used as an alternative or conservatively parallel therapy, which in the initial stages may well slow down the process and even help to avoid surgery.
The benefits of treating folk remedies
The problem of adenoids faces a huge number of children and their parents. The pharyngeal tonsil of normal size is necessary for the body, since it performs a protective function – it protects the body from free entry of viruses and bacteria with air into it. But with frequent acute respiratory viral infections, colds, hereditary predisposition, the pharyngeal tonsil gradually increases in size and prevents the baby from breathing through his nose. In addition, in the presence of adenoids, adenoiditis often occurs – inflammation of the nasopharyngeal tonsil, which proceeds as a sore throat and requires the use of antibiotics.
It is recommended to remove adenoids only after they have attained 2 or higher degrees of development and, if there are indications, recurrent otitis, adenoiditis, in case of serious respiratory disorders, etc. The first stage of the disease, provided there is no regular ARVI, is perfectly treated by conservative and folk methods. Therefore, it is extremely important to start treating the child in time before the disease has reached the advanced stage.
Folk remedies for adenoids will help to carry out such actions:
- eliminate nasal congestion;
- reduce swelling of the pharyngeal tonsil and turbinates;
- will not allow a slow-flowing infection in the nasopharynx;
- reduce the incidence of acute and subacute adenoiditis;
- much slower further hypertrophy of the pharyngeal tonsil; Learn more about tonsil hypertrophy.
- strengthen local immunity.
Due to the complex positive effects on adenoid vegetations, these formations will increase in size according to the growth of the child, thereby causing no need for removal. By the age of 10-12, the tissues of the pharyngeal tonsil are sclerosed, and the problem of the adenoids disappears by itself. But sometimes adenoids are found in adults, which is most often associated with the lack of treatment or surgery in childhood. The principles of treatment of the disease in adults are similar: large formations should be removed, small ones should be treated with conservative and traditional methods in combination.
Even at stage 2-3 of the disease, when the operation is postponed for some reason or not indicated, non-traditional methods can be applied to cure adenoids. It is advisable to conduct treatment courses at least 2 times a year. Consultation with an otolaryngologist, as well as an assessment of the safety of the agents used and the elimination of allergies, will be obligatory before they are started.
Treatment of adenoids with folk remedies is most often suggested using aloe juice. This tool has a bactericidal effect, as well as a resolving and anti-edema effect, and therefore is useful in acute adenoiditis and during the “quiet” phase of the disease.
Before applying aloe, it is advisable to rinse the nose with salt water, or do a spray rinse based on sea water. Then you should squeeze the juice from the leaf of aloe, drip it into the nose for 5 drops. Repeat treatment daily for up to 60 days. In addition, you can rinse the nose with the juice itself, diluting it with water 1: 3. Per day you need to do 2 procedures for washing the nose, a course of 14 days. For the treatment of adenoids dry or fresh horsetail is used. The plant can be found on any meadow or in the forest, but if it is not possible to collect it in an ecologically clean place, it is better to purchase raw materials at the pharmacy. Against adenoids can be applied such treatments on the basis of horsetail:
Pour 300 ml of hot water with 2 tablespoons of herbs, bring to a boil, then heat in a water bath for 7 minutes. Allow the broth to infuse for another 2 hours, and then drink 100 ml three times a day. Course 10 days. For children under 3 years of age, such therapy is prohibited.
Mix the horsetail and echinacea grass equally. Spoon collection brew a glass of boiling water, leave for an hour. Strain the infusion, drink 50 ml three times a day, adding half a teaspoon of honey. Course 10 days.
Boil in 500 ml of water a spoonful of horsetail and chamomile flowers, leave for 2 hours. Strain, do the washing of the nose once a day for up to 14 days. During treatment with horsetail, it is better to ingest vitamin B1, as the plant causes its rapid consumption in the body.
To get rid of adenoids connect 20 g of oak bark, 10 g of mint leaves, 10 g of Hypericum. A spoon of this collection is boiled in 200 ml of water for 3 minutes over low heat, filtered through an hour. Instill into the patient’s nose 4 drops twice a day. Apply treatment for 2 weeks.
Sea buckthorn oil
This remedy is successfully used against all ENT diseases, and adenoids are no exception. Sea buckthorn oil even recommends the use of traditional medicine due to its high efficiency. The tool strengthens the vessels of the nose, reduces the secretion of mucus, resolves adenoid formations. The easiest way to bury a drop of oil in the nose for a child or an adult is 3 drops twice a day, the last time before bedtime. The course of therapy should be extended to 21 days.
With acute adenoiditis, you can squeeze the juice from garlic, add 3 drops of juice to a teaspoon of sea buckthorn oil, and then bury it four times a day in the nose until the symptoms of the disease subside.
Most often, traditional medicine advises doing nasal washing with propolis tincture. To prepare the solution in a glass of warm water, add a quarter of a teaspoon of soda, 20 drops of propolis tincture. The patient’s nose should be washed 2-3 times a day, for which you can use a syringe or syringe.
Another treatment option for adenoids is propolis. Combine 10 teaspoons of butter and 1 teaspoon of propolis. Then heat this mixture in a water bath for 20 minutes. After cooling with ointment, you need to lubricate the nasal passages twice a day for 1 month. Instead of butter, you can take any vegetable oil.
Treatment of adenoids with celandine usually gives excellent results if it is started at an early stage of the disease. A teaspoon of fresh celandine (you can take a dry, but fresh is better suited) boil in a glass of milk, let cool and strain. The resulting tool to drip into the nose 3 drops 5 times a day.
The following recipe: squeeze the juice of celandine, mix the juice with water 1:20, then drip into the nose a drop of the resulting solution for a month 2 times a day. It is advisable to make the solution fresh for every day. You can also make an ointment for adenoids: stir a teaspoon of dry St. John’s wort crushed into dust in 2 spoons of butter, then add 3 drops of celandine juice to the ointment. After preparation of the ointment, moisten the cotton wool coats with it, put them in the nose for 20 minutes twice a day.
Clove has an antiseptic effect and is more suitable for the treatment of acute adenoiditis. 10 pieces of cloves need to be brewed with a glass of boiling water, let it brew for an hour. Then drip into the nose 2 drops of infusion several times a day. The tool will help soothe inflammation, relieve nasal congestion, prevent subsequent exacerbations of adenoiditis.
Instillation of antiseptic oils into the nose has already helped many children avoid surgery to remove the adenoids. Especially often recommends to be treated with oils homeopathy, but sometimes it does and conservative medicine. It is usually recommended not to carry out monotherapy with eucalyptus oil, but a cycle of courses consisting of topical application of different types of oils. First, you need to drop 3 drops three times a day of eucalyptus oil (14 days), then change it to sea buckthorn oil (14 days at the same dosage), and then complete the treatment with a 14-day course of instillation with cedar or tea tree oil.
If it is not possible to buy eucalyptus oil, you can brew the leaves of the plant (a spoon for a glass of boiling water), then insist in a thermos for 2 hours, drip into the nose 5 drops three times a day, or wash the nose 2 times a day with a course of 1-2 months.
Warming up with a blue lamp
The lamp with a blue luminescence (Minin’s lamp) is a radiator of infrared light. Such a lamp has a heating effect, therefore it is forbidden to use for acute adenoiditis. In the complex therapy of adenoids, the blue lamp can be used: for 10 minutes, heat the nose twice with this device. Too close to the face of the lamp should not bring (away by 20 cm), so it was not too hot. On the eyes at this time you need to apply a bandage.
Features of treatment in a child
In addition to using the above methods of treating adenoids and adenoiditis, it is important for children to carry out general measures to increase immunity and increase body resistance, so that the baby rarely gets sick, and the adenoids have no chance to grow further. For this you need:
- walking in the open air more often;
- dress according to the weather, do not catch a cold;
- quenched with the help of a contrast shower, cool rubdowns, douche;
- swimming pool;
- do gymnastics at home, and, if possible, go to the sports section;
- fight the dust and dryness of the air at home;
- maintain the optimum temperature in the apartment (19-21 degrees);
- eat right.
In the presence of adenoids, it is very important to regularly flush the nose with seawater, either with normal saline or with a weak salt solution prepared at home. Washing not only removes mucus and microbes, but also strengthens the local immunity of the nose and nasopharynx, so it must be performed.
What not to do
Otolaryngologists do not recommend if you have 1-2 degrees of adenoids immediately run for surgery, if there are no clear indications for this. But to keep the education in the same form and not bring the situation to deplorable will only compliance with measures to reduce the incidence of ARVI will allow, for which it is very important to strengthen the child’s body.
It is not necessary to send the child to kindergarten immediately after he recovered: after the symptoms of the disease subside, you should wait 7-10 days, and only in this case the swelling of the pharyngeal tonsil and its inflammation will subside. Also, doctors are wary of those folk remedies that use allergic products and various kinds of heating: it is inappropriate and even dangerous to treat adenoids in this way, especially if acute adenoiditis is currently occurring.
In most cases, treatment is possible only by removing the adenoids by a doctor, but it is possible to slow the process of the disease at home. We remind you that only a doctor can correctly diagnose and prescribe a qualified treatment!
