5 months baby does not roll over

Often there is such a situation: a child does not turn over at 4 months, and parents who have read information about 3-month-old children who have mastered the skills of coups, begin to sound the alarm, taking the crumb for an examination.

5 months baby does not roll over

In fact, even if a child does not turn over in 5 months, nothing terrible happens. Most pediatricians believe that only by 6 months this skill should appear, and even in this case, an amendment is made to the individual characteristics of the baby and another month is given for muscle development.

Preparations for coups

First of all, the baby learns to hold the head upright, to make neck turns in response to mother’s voice. When he has mastered these movements, the second stage begins: the child is often recommended to lay out on the tummy, where he learns to lie first with his head raised, and then rise, leaning on his forearms.

Raising the head is caused by a reflex, the child realizes that, lying face down, can suffocate, and this awareness causes him to work with the muscles of the neck. In addition, the usual curiosity helps to overcome fear and gives joy to the baby, because the new position allows you to look at the world and familiar objects from a different angle.

Holding the head and torso in an elevated position occurs after 3 months of age and is accompanied by a certain period of training. Movements are increasingly coordinated. Having achieved skills in such exercises, the kid is preparing for the next stage of development on the way to an erect walk: mastering the skills of a coup.

First attempts

As the muscles of the back, neck, and extremities get stronger, babies slowly begin to roll over. At first it looks clumsy: the baby is swinging, lying on his back, and trying to throw his body on its side. This is a good signal for parents, indicating that the foundation for physical activity is laid.

As soon as the child made the first attempts at coups, you need to focus on safety. In practice, this means that it is impossible to leave the cub unattended for a minute on the changing table or bed without protective sides. Even if the mother is nearby and turned away only for the cream or powder, you need to hold the baby with your free hand.

If there is a support for the legs: the wall, the sides of the crib – the baby will definitely use it to push off. Many children quickly master coups from back to belly and back, and at the age of 4-5 months they skillfully demonstrate them. However, free coups, executed with masterly ease, will appear closer to half a year.

Exercises

And how can you help your child develop such abilities? If he is not lazy and purposeful by nature, try putting a toy on his side, thereby stimulating the crumbs to reach for it, turning on its side.

Exercises on the gym ball. Put the kid belly on the ball. One hand fixes the thigh, the second – the back. Swing the baby in different directions, performing circular, springy movements. This not only strengthens the muscular corset, but also develops the vestibular apparatus.

The coup for the leg. The baby is lying on its back. We keep his left leg from bending, fix the right leg and begin to pull down along the axis, slowly raising the right leg through the left leg. The coup should not happen quickly, 10 seconds should be active actions aimed at the final positive result. The elbow is released and brought out. The exercise is done in both directions alternately 3 times per approach. Performed throughout the day several approaches.

Lay the crumb on the flank, fixing the position with your hands on top. The goal is to keep the child in that position for a few seconds, teaching him to lie on his side.

Twisting. Starting position – lying on its side. With one hand, hold the crumb by the shoulder, the other lead the pelvis in the direction of the coup. Then the pelvis is fixed, and the shoulder is tightened in the direction of the coup, while not allowing it to be completed during the exercise.

Bend and unbend the feet of the baby, as if riding a bicycle. Put your fingers into the hands of a reclining baby and pull him towards you, then return to the starting position.

What if the child does not roll over?

If 6 months have passed since birth, and the child does not turn over and does not even make any attempts, you need to show it to two specialists: a pediatrician and a neuropathologist. Doctors examine the crumbs, eliminate or confirm neurological disorders, prescribe physiotherapy, therapeutic massage.

We learned how many months a child begins to roll over from his back to his stomach and back, as well as ways to strengthen muscles in the home. It remains only to be patient and make a little effort.
