A delay of 2 days for girls or women can occur for various reasons. Every woman should watch her menstrual cycle, mark the beginning of her period, duration and regularity. This is important in order to notice any changes and, if necessary, consult a doctor. Although the delay in menstruation for 2 days is a short time, it can still be a signal of some kind of irregularities in the body.

Menstrual cycle

One of the signs of puberty are menstrual. Each girl, they appear at different ages, but on average from 11-12 years. There are cases when menstruation can begin for the first time at the age of 16. Under the menstrual cycle refers to the period from the beginning of the first day of menstruation to the first day of the next menstruation. The menstrual cycle of each woman is formed individually, depending on the physiological processes occurring in the body, and can be 25-35 days. On average, the cycle of most girls is 25-28 days.

The duration of menstruation during puberty may fluctuate, and the menstrual cycle is disturbed. This is due to the fact that the hormonal background of girls is very unstable during the period of formation, and the delay of 2 months does not indicate anything terrible. In menopausal women, the monthly interval is also often disturbed. There may be a delay of menstruation for several days, or even weeks, after which the periods go longer than the allotted time with copious secretions. This may continue for a long time.

What can be called delayed menstruation? As the girl matures, the menstrual cycle becomes regular. If it lasts 26 days, then the first day of the delay can be considered the 27th day, provided that they did not start on the 26th day of the cycle. The delay is also calculated at a cycle of 25-35 days. Each subsequent day, which increases the cycle longer than usual, can be considered a delay.

Hormones and process regulation

The main hormones that regulate menstruation are called:

  • luteinizing (LH)
  • follicle-stimulating (FSH).

These hormones are produced by the pituitary gland, a small gland that is located in the lower part of the brain. The pituitary gland also affects the ovarian production of progesterone and estrogen. These two hormones prepare the female body for a possible pregnancy if fertilization occurs.

Almost every woman before the start of menstruation may notice such changes:

  • breast swelling and tenderness;
  • mood swings;
  • the appearance of pain in the lower abdomen or in the lumbar region;
  • an increase in the abdomen;
  • sleep disorders;
  • increased appetite;
  • fever

Some women experience a sensation of heat (tide), which can be replaced by chills. All these changes indicate a hormonal alteration in the body in the days of maturation of the egg. Menstrual bleeding lasts 3-7 days. The first day can be painful, especially for girls who did not give birth.

Blood loss during menstruation is small, and in the normal process is 15-75 ml. The whole point of the menstrual period is to prepare the woman’s body for possible fertilization. People can conceive a child every month, unlike animals, due to cyclical changes in the body of women of reproductive age.

Four cycle phases

The woman’s menstrual cycle consists of 4 phases, which replace each other. Information about these processes helps not only to plan a pregnancy, but also to prevent diseases that are accompanied by delayed menstruation or other manifestations. The method of calculating the “dangerous” days helps prevent pregnancy.

The duration of each phase depends directly on the woman’s menstrual cycle. The first two phases allow the woman’s body to prepare for the formation of the egg. The following two phases are associated with egg formation and conception. If fertilization does not occur, the egg cell dies and a new cycle begins.

The first phase is called menstrual and begins on the first day of menstruation. Its duration is 3-6 days. Due to the effects of hormones, the endometrium of the uterus is rejected and along with the dead egg comes out with blood secretions. During this period, most girls suffer from algomenorrhea, that is, excessive pain. This phenomenon may be associated with infectious diseases of the genitourinary system or pelvic organs.

The second phase is called follicular, its duration is about 14 days. At this time, follicle-stimulating hormone is produced, under the influence of which the follicles are produced. Over time, the follicle is formed, from which the egg will mature. At the same time, under the influence of estrogen, processes occur due to which the female body will become susceptible to spermatozoa.

The third phase is considered very important, since ovulation occurs. This means that the maturation of the egg is completed, and it leaves the follicle. The duration of the ovulation phase is only three days. During this time, a mature egg reaches the fallopian tubes and lasts there for 2 days. At this moment fertilization is possible.

The phase of ovulation is replaced by the fourth phase, called luteal. After the egg is released, the follicle or corpus luteum produces progesterone. This hormone prepares the uterus for making a fertilized egg. This phase lasts no longer than 16 days. If fertilization has occurred, then after 6–12 days the egg cell reaches the uterus, is attached there and the formation of the fetus begins.

Failures in the body

Most often, monthly delays are in adolescents. Within two years from the beginning of the first menstruation, the regularity is disturbed by an unstable hormonal background. This may be a concern for girls, but this phenomenon is considered normal. If after 3-5 years the regularity of the menstrual cycle has not been established, it is necessary to consult with the gynecologist and endocrinologist.

A delay of 2 days is not considered pathology if it occurs 1-2 times a year. The most common reasons for which monthly delays occur are:

  • climate change;
  • stress;
  • heredity;
  • ovarian dysfunction;
  • excessive exercise;
  • obesity;
  • dieting;
  • intoxication;
  • bad habits;
  • gynecological diseases;
  • miscarriages;
  • abortion;
  • taking hormonal contraceptives;
  • menopause;
  • medication;
  • pregnancy;
  • lactation period;
  • disruption of the thyroid gland;
  • operative intervention;
  • diabetes;
  • diseases of the liver and kidneys.

The delay of menstruation for 2 days, and sometimes more, occurs when a woman makes a transfer or flight. Sharp climate change is a stress for the body, especially if this also causes a change in the time zone. Long stay in the sun, unusual food and drinks do not have the best effect. Therefore, 1-2 days delay is quite understandable phenomenon under such conditions.

Why is stress interrupted by the menstrual period? Stress is regarded by the body as a danger message, and therefore it instantly reacts with the production of the hormones cortisol and adrenaline. Having received a signal of this kind, the body is engaged in the solution of “danger”, while other functions recede into the background or are “inhibited”.

2 days delay

As long as the body is busy solving the primary task, other processes slow down. This also applies to the work of the reproductive system. The phases of the menstrual cycle are disturbed, leading to a delay. Sometimes menstruation is not regular due to hereditary factors. Maybe mother or grandmother faced with a similar problem, and this was inherited. This condition cannot be considered pathological.

Review of possible pathologies

Serious reasons for which there is a delay in menstruation for 2 days or more include tumor formation in the uterus or ovaries, intoxication, thyroid dysfunction, abortion, sexually transmitted diseases, and surgery. A woman should pay special attention if her period is delayed regularly, after which there is abundant blood loss.

Such a phenomenon may indicate a serious illness. Myoma, fibromyoma, cysts of appendages, oncological diseases can be accompanied by both a violation of the cycle and the duration of bleeding. For some women, periods can last up to 14 days. Due to the resulting tumor, the uterus cannot contract, resulting in bleeding. In this case, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible.

Thyroid dysfunction, which regulates the production of hormones, can trigger menstrual irregularities. At the same time every day of delay may be accompanied by signs of menstruation:

  • breast enlargement;
  • pain in the abdomen and lower back;
  • increased appetite;
  • small brown secretions;
  • irritation and sleep disturbance.

To determine how the thyroid gland works, doctors recommend testing for sex hormones. If a problem is detected with an excess or lack of some hormones, the treatment will be to take hormonal drugs.

Abortion or miscarriages have a negative impact on women’s health. With pregnancy, the body is rebuilt in a new way. The sudden elimination of the fetus forces the reproductive system to return to its normal state. After miscarriage, the uterus is cleansed. This leads to damage to the mucous membrane, so the menstruation disorder in this case is a natural reaction to such a procedure.

Pregnancy

The most pleasant reason for the delay in menstruation for most women is pregnancy, especially if it is long-awaited and planned. Every day delay can cause excitement and anxiety. Tests were invented to determine early pregnancy. These are small test strips that need to be dipped into a container with urine for a few seconds.

The principle of the tests is based on the sensitivity to the hormone, which is abbreviated to hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin). This hormone is produced by the placenta during pregnancy. You can test yourself with the test on the second day of the delay. Some tests are able to show pregnancy as early as 7-10 days after the intended fertilization, when the level of hCG sharply increases. Two strips on the dough indicate a positive result.

Ectopic pregnancy is especially dangerous. The test may not show it, since the production of hCG occurs in a slow way. Therefore, if the delay is only two days, and the test shows a negative result, it is better to consult a gynecologist. This applies to those women who have had unprotected sexual intercourse.

Recovery of the menstrual cycle does not occur immediately after the birth of the child. Monthly periods may be absent, but this should not alarm or frighten. Some treatment is not required, as the body in this case will regulate the hormonal balance for several months.

Women’s Health Prevention

In order to maintain health, a woman needs to give up bad habits, overeating, excessive physical exertion. Obesity, working with chemicals can cause disruptions in the reproductive system and lead to infertility. Passion for diets depletes the body, which also adversely affects the health of girls and women.

It should be noted that every day of delay may indicate the upcoming joy associated with pregnancy, or the problem that needs to be addressed. But it is impossible to find out on your own.
