Amoxicillin is a veterinary, 15% antibiotic, in a bottle – 10 ml or 100 ml. Designed to treat infections that are caused by bacteria. Used to treat various animals: cats, dogs, etc. 1 ml contains 150 milligrams of amoxicillin trihydrate and an oily filler.

Amoxicillin veterinary is prescribed for the treatment of gastrointestinal infections caused by bacteria, namely enteritis, gastroenteritis, gastroenterocolitis; diseases of the respiratory type – bronchitis, bronchopneumonia, rhinitis; surgical diseases – wounds, abscesses, inflammations of joints; diseases of the urogenital organs – metritis, endometritis, cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis; skin diseases and diseases of soft tissues, various kinds of complications that are caused by microorganisms that are sensitive to the drug, in various types of animals: dogs, cats, cattle, goats, sheep, pigs. Treatment of mastitis, agalactia, leptospirosis, actinomycosis, erysipelas, parainfluenza and paratyphoid fever in pigs.

Doses and method of use of veterinary amoxicillin

This drug is administered to animals intramuscularly or subcutaneously at a dose of 1 milliliter per 10 kilograms of animal weight, that is, 15 milligrams of a substance per kilogram of body weight. If the animal has a renal failure, then an exact adjustment of the dose of the drug is necessary. The contents of the vial, before use, must be thoroughly shaken in order to obtain a homogeneous suspension. If necessary, the drug can be re-administered after two days. If the dose of the drug exceeds 20 ml, then it must be administered in several injections and in different places. After that, it is recommended to massage the injection site.

Pharmacological properties

Veterinary Amoxicillin is a semi-synthetic antibiotic of the penicillin group. Excellent for gram-positive, such as – Actinomyces spp., Bacillus anthracis, Clostridium spp., Corynebacterium spp., Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp. and gram-negative microorganisms — Actinobacillus spp., Bordetella onchiseptica, E. coli, Salmonella spp., Fusobacterium spp., Haemophilus spp., Moraxella spp., Pasteurella spp., Proteus mirabilis. This drug does not affect strains of penicillating microorganisms – Klebsiella, Enterobacter and Pseudomonas. Amoxicillin is a veterinary, interfering with the synthesis of bacterial cell walls, inhibits transpeptidase and carboxypeptidase enzymes and disrupts the osmotic balance. These processes lead to the fact that the bacteria die in the process of growth. The oily filler, which is part of the drug, gradually releases micronized amoxicillin into the blood, which ensures the duration of the antibiotic. If the drug is used parenterally, in this case, it is well absorbed, well dispersed throughout the body. Due to the fact that the connection with plasma proteins is 17-20%, which is insignificant, the highest concentration is achieved in the tissues of the muscles, liver, kidneys, gastrointestinal tract. Amoxicillin slightly passes into the brain and bone fluid. The exception is when the brain is inflamed. In the blood plasma, the concentration becomes maximum one to two hours after the drug is injected and remains at the required level for about two days. The metabolism of amoxicillin practically does not occur, it is excreted in the urine, milk and bile.

Side effects

Allergic reactions are possible on veterinary amoxicillin. However, they immediately pass after the drug is discontinued. With an overdose, intoxication is almost impossible. If allergic reactions occur, it is recommended to inject corticosteroids and adrenaline.


Contraindications to the use of amoxicillin is hypersensitivity to this drug and other types of penicillin. Intravenous drive this drug is prohibited. It is not used for rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs and gerbils. It can not be mixed with other drugs, it can not be used together with chemotherapeutic bacteriostatic agents. This drug should not be prescribed for infections that are caused by bacteria that form penicillinase.

The meat of animals can be processed only 2 weeks after the introduction of amoxicillin is stopped. Meat of animals that were forced to be killed before the expiration of this period, is used only for feeding other animals or making meat and bone meal. Milk of animals that were injected with amoxicillin can be used for food purposes only 2 days after the end of treatment. Milk, which was obtained from animals during treatment with amoxicillin before the expiration of 2 days, is used to feed other animals.

Storage conditions

Store amoxicillin veterinary recommended in a dry place, protected from sunlight. Storage is possible at a temperature of 5 to 20 degrees Celsius. Shelf life – 3 years.
