What is attentiveness?

To help the Christian believer, the Orthodox Church makes many different requirements.

A requirement is a small service that is served at the request (upon request) of a parishioner. The most common requirements in our church are prayers that serve the health of Orthodox Christians. In addition, ceremonial services on the days of major church holidays often end with such demands.

So why do we need a water prayer service for an Orthodox person?

What is prayer with water blessing?

In consultation with the priest, such service can be served in the temple or at home. At home, as a rule, they serve when a person cannot, for whatever reason, come to the temple (for example, illness). In the church, such services are performed after the Liturgy, or on special days.

In addition to the consecration of water on the requirements can be read Akathists.

At the prayer service with water sanctification, the rite of small consecration of water is performed. On the feast of the Baptism of the Lord, a special prayer service is held – the agiasma. On this day, the events of the Gospel are remembered, when our Lord Jesus Christ received holy baptism from John the Baptist.

Agiasma is the rite of the great consecration of water. Water from this service is stored for a year, until the next holiday. It does not spoil, has no smell, does not change its properties for a long time. Many scientists have repeatedly investigated the structure and physical characteristics of the water of the Epiphany and came to the conclusion that this water is “living”

Low water coverage can be made any day. in agreement with the abbot or priest of the temple. Some temples have a tradition to serve regular services with water blessing – for this purpose a certain day and time is appointed when any person can come and participate in the divine service.

The most popular among us is the holding of water with an appeal to the Most Holy Theotokos (in front of its icons are the Inexhaustible Chalice, All-Tsaritsa, Kazan, Vladimir and others), St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, St. Matrona of Moscow, Xenia of St. Petersburg.

Often the requirements serve the saint in whose honor the temple or its limit is consecrated.

What is attentiveness?

In addition to the pleading prayers for health, we should not forget about the thankful demands, in response to receiving what is asked for in prayers.

How is the water prayer service

Holy water prayer – what is it? This service begins with the fact that a special table is placed in the middle of the temple, on which a large bowl of water is placed, the Gospel and the Crucifixion are put. It is necessary to prepare in advance little notes with the names of relatives and friends, for the health of which you want to pray. These names will be read by the priest in the rite.

More about church services and sacraments:

When a water prayer service is served, its text is read from special books – servants. Also, a passage from the Gospel is read before the consecration of the water. Ectinia is also uttered – a pleading prayer about the purpose for which water-holy water is served.

This divine service ends with a prayer for the consecration of water, after which the priest crosses the Crucifixion in water three times with the request to bless it. After that, the priest sprinkles containers from the common consecrated bowl with the water of the parishioners and the people themselves.

When a water-holy prayer is served, its succession may be different. Also the duration of this service will be different. If an akathist is read, more time is required. If the father serves one – the service will also be longer. If you plan some business after visiting the temple – find out the duration of the blessing of the servants.

How to use holy water

After completing the small consecration of water, each parishioner goes home with a jar or bottle of holy water.

What to do with it next?

The holy water brought from the temple can be used as follows:

  1. Drink it to strengthen the body and soul, especially in the disease. It is worth knowing that Epiphany water is drunk on an empty stomach with a piece of prosforki, while water from a small rank can be drunk all day long by itself;
  2. Holy water sanctify the home. We must not forget that such water is a shrine, so it is unacceptable to sprinkle it on unclean places.
  3. To wash little children, sick people. If a person is unable to drink water for some reason, you can wash her face with it.
  4. Believers start cooking with the addition of prayer water to the base dish.

The use of consecrated water for any magical purposes is completely unacceptable. Many now popular healers and psychics use the shrine in their rites, thereby desecrating it. This is a great sin – do not take part in it!

Interesting about Orthodoxy:

It is necessary to keep water from water baking in a specially designated place, preferably in a red corner near the icons. Epiphany water, if you store it in large quantities for the whole year, can be stored in a kitchen cupboard or another neat place. You should not put holy water next to banks with preservation or other food products – such water should be stored separately. Especially It is unacceptable to put the banks with the shrine under the bed, stuff into the closets or on the mezzanine.

The force of influence on a person of holy water directly depends on his belief in God. You can drink this water at least in liters and have no spiritual benefit at the same time due to the lack of faith.

At the same time, the great saints could spend all day with a glass of holy water and a small prosvorki and had the strength for long prayers and vigils.
