Biology as an academic subject is an integral part of science education at all levels of education. As one of the important components of the “Natural Science” educational field, biology makes a significant contribution to the achievement of the goals of general education, ensuring students learn the basics of academic disciplines, develop their intellectual and creative abilities, and form a scientific world view and value orientations. The work program is designed to study biology in the 10th grade of the secondary school according to the textbook:

At the basic level, 70 hours are devoted to the study of biology, including 35 hours in the 10th grade and 35 hours in the 11th grade. In accordance with the federal basic curriculum for secondary (complete) general education, the program is designed to teach a biology course in grade 10 in the amount of 1 hour per week. The work program reflects the goals and objectives of the study of biology at the stage of secondary (complete) general education set out in the explanatory note to the Exemplary Program in Biology (basic level).

The study of biology at the stage of secondary (complete) general education in high school at a basic level is aimed at achieving the following goals:

  1. the development of knowledge about biological systems (cell, organism, species, ecosystem); history of the development of modern ideas about wildlife; outstanding discoveries in biological science; the role of biological science in shaping the modern natural science picture of the world; methods of scientific knowledge;
  2. mastering the skills to justify the place and role of biological knowledge in the practical activities of people, the development of modern technologies; conduct observations of ecosystems in order to describe them and identify natural and anthropogenic changes; find and analyze information about living objects;
  3. development of cognitive interests, intellectual and creative abilities in the process of studying the outstanding achievements of biology that are part of human culture; complex and controversial ways of development of modern scientific views, ideas, theories, concepts, various hypotheses (about the essence and origin of life, man) in the course of working with various sources of information;
  4. education of conviction in the possibility of knowing wildlife, the need for careful attitude to the natural environment, their own health; respect for the opinion of the opponent when discussing biological problems;
  5. the use of acquired knowledge and skills in everyday life to assess the consequences of their activities in relation to the environment, the health of other people and their own health; justification and compliance with preventive measures of diseases, rules of behavior in nature.

An exemplary program provides students with the development of general educational skills and abilities, universal methods of activity and key competencies. In this direction, the priorities for the school subject “Biology” at the secondary (complete) general education level at the basic level are: comparison of objects, analysis, assessment, information search in various sources.

The principles of selection of the main and additional content in the work program are connected with the continuity of the goals of education at various levels and levels of education, the logic of intradisciplinary connections, as well as the age peculiarities of the development of students. The course of biology at the stage of secondary (complete) general education at the basic level is aimed at developing students’ knowledge of wildlife, its distinguishing features – level organization and evolution, so the program includes information about general biological patterns that manifest themselves at different levels of organization of wildlife. The basis for selecting content at a basic level is a culture-like approach, in accordance with which students should master the knowledge and skills that are important for the formation of a common culture, determine adequate human behavior in the environment, and are in demand in life and practice. In this regard, at the basic level, the program pays special attention to the content underlying the formation of the modern natural science picture of the world, value orientations, which realizes the humanization of biological education. The basis for structuring the content of a biology course in high school at a basic level is made up of leading ideas – the distinctive features of living nature, its level organization and evolution. In accordance with them, the content lines of the course are highlighted: Biology as a science. Methods of scientific knowledge; Cell; Organism; View; Ecosystems.

The work program includes sections: an explanatory note; course content regulatory documents ensuring the implementation of the program; course structure; list of laboratory works; calendar and thematic planning; requirements for the level of training of students in grade 10; educational and methodical support.
