Fungus of the foot and nails – an unpleasant disease. Because of it there can be cracks between the fingers, ulceration of the skin, weeping areas that are formed due to bursting bubbles, deep cracks on the heels. These phenomena cause severe pain, especially annoying when walking. Naturally, in the course of treatment, the patient wants all these unpleasant symptoms to pass as quickly as possible. Levomekol can help with this.
This drug has an antibacterial and antiseptic effect, and also stimulates tissue regeneration. Levomekol is used as an adjunct to the fungus, because it has no effect on the causative agent of this disease, but it helps to restore the skin and protects against a bacterial infection, which is able to join, penetrating into damaged areas.
How does Levomekol ointment work?
This topical product contains two active ingredients:
The first component is antibacterial, the second is regenerating. The ointment is a white substance with a faint characteristic odor. On sale it occurs in two forms: in tubes and glass jars.
Levomekol is usually used in the treatment of the following diseases:
- Purulent wounds in the phase of inflammation;
- Open wounds without purulent discharge;
- Trophic ulcers;
- Periodontal disease;
- Postoperative sutures.
As an aid, the drug is used in the treatment of herpetic and fungal skin lesions.
In general, it can be noted that Levomekol is used as a remedy for the effects of a far-gone fungus, which led to serious damage to soft tissues.
Restrictions and warnings
This ointment can not be used with individual intolerance to the components and for the treatment of children up to three years. Eczema and psoriasis are also contraindications to the use of Levomekol. But pregnant and lactating women can apply the ointment as prescribed by the doctor.
Sometimes, when applying the drug to the skin, patients noted a burning sensation, redness, and a rash on the skin. Remember, any side effects – this is a reason to cancel the use of funds and look for a more suitable.
Another important point is the gap in time when using an anti-mycotic and healing drug, since they may conflict with each other. The best option is to use only those medicines that the doctor has prescribed. If it is impossible to follow this advice, it is recommended to read the instructions for use.
Who needs this drug and when
Of course, the use of Levomekol is not necessary, because if the ointment against the fungus or other antimycotic drug has worked, it is assumed that the skin heals itself.
However, this principle does not apply to certain groups of patients:
- Patients with diabetes mellitus (diabetic foot, characteristic of this disease, is characterized by an increased risk of infection and tissue trophism);
- People with varicose veins, hematological diseases, immunodeficiency;
- Those who are forced by the nature of their activities to walk or stand a lot, spend the whole day in uncomfortable shoes;
- The elderly;
- Pregnant women.
Those lesions that inflicted an interdigital fungus on them will not heal by themselves due to a decrease in the regenerative abilities of the body or daily damage to the soft tissues of the foot.
Levomekol used in the following situations:
- interdigital dermatophytosis (that is, from the fungus between the fingers, which causes cracks);
- with dyshidrotic dermatophytosis (with the appearance of weeping, itchy blisters and ulcerations);
- with plantar dermatophytosis (this disease is characterized by increased keratinization of the skin, deep cracks on the heels).
Levomekol is ineffective in nail fungus (onychomycosis), because it does not penetrate into hard tissue and does not affect the causative agent. If there is no inflammation, damaged areas, just one nail turned yellow or a few, the skin flakes a little, there is no need to use healing ointment. Here it is enough to use an antifungal drug, which was prescribed by a doctor.
How ointment is applied
Levomekolem need to smear those places where the integrity of the skin is broken: the area between the fingers, each finger in the bend, the zone of the sole, where the bubbles burst or cracks. The best option is to apply the drug at night in a thin layer, without rubbing, without using dressings. It is best to wear clean cotton socks that need to be changed every day.
Beforehand, the foot should be cleared of dirt and previously applied other preparations, the skin should be dried with a soft cloth. Asepsis – the main condition for treatment, so before the treatment procedure and after her hands wash with antibacterial soap.
The term of use of Levomekol is no more than 10 days, because the bacterial microflora becomes accustomed to its components, and the drug stops helping. If progress in the treatment of the disease is not achieved: persisting weeping areas, pain, inflammation, it is recommended to consult a doctor. Subsequently, you can use tools with a similar action:
- Vishnevsky ointment;
- Ichthyol ointment;
- Ointment Levocin;
- salicylic zinc paste, etc.
Mikhail M.: I suffered for a long time from the fungus, I do not even remember when it started with me. At first it was hard itching between the fingers, I smeared it with a greasy children’s cream or cologne and everything passed, but then it began again, especially if you wet your feet. Then I did not know that it is a fungus. But last winter, the skin began to crack. My right leg was still nothing, but I couldn’t even step on my left, it was very painful when I flexed my fingers. The doctor said it was a fungus and prescribed Nizoral to drink. In the cracks I laid the pieces of bandage with Levomekol. Everything went very quickly, cracks overgrown in just a couple of days, and since that time nothing has itched anymore. So I was in vain, one course of treatment immediately solved the problem.
Olga Z.: Levomekol is a drug that should be in every first aid kit, it is universal and helps with many problems, not only with the skin. I had to try it from the fungus that I picked up in the pool. I first had a rash on the soles and toes, then bubbles with liquid. They burst, it was all just terribly itchy and sore. When I got into the Internet, I found by the symptoms that it could be a fungus. Began to heal: smear Lamisil in the mornings with Levomekol for the night. I rubbed them very carefully all over the foot to the lower leg, and worked each finger in a circle and between them. At night she put on socks for a pedicure on ointment, and in the morning they washed them in hot water. So saved from the fungus.
Evgeny T.: My review of Levomekola is rather negative. He did not help me. Everybody advised me of this ointment from cracks on the soles of the feet and on the heels, but I did not feel any effect, even though I smeared them for a long time. Is that softens the skin a bit, but you can just smear with cream or oil. I do not understand why he is considered such a miracle.
