Does cystitis keep coming back? Does this mean that you were treated incorrectly or signaled a weak immunity? Not!
Our expert is a surgeon-urologist-oncologist, candidate of medical sciences Hovhannes Dilanyan.
If cystitis occurs more often twice a year, the process can be considered chronic. However, this does not mean that you did not cure acute cystitis or were treated incorrectly. Acute cystitis does not become chronic, even if the disease is not treated. Of course, antibiotics accelerate recovery, but if a person does not have serious immunity disorders (for example, AIDS), as a rule, the cystitis completely disappears with time, even if you do not take medicine. Therefore, if the disease returns again and again, it is necessary to look for the reason why the inflammation of the bladder occurs. Among them:
Clinical case. A woman complains of pain and pain when urinating. Urine analysis shows the presence of Pseudomuscular bacillus, so the doctor prescribes antibiotics. Symptoms gradually subside, but after only a few days after the end of antibiotic intake, cystitis returns. As a result of the examination, the patient found kidney stones. An operation to remove the stones was performed, after which the cystitis disappeared.
What happened. On any foreign body, which is a stone, three or four days after its formation, microfilm (microbiolet) from bacteria begins to form. Bacteria are constantly in the bladder, causing inflammation, which antibiotics successfully cope with. But, since the source of the bacteria is not eliminated, as soon as the patient stops drinking the medication, the cystitis returns.
Clinical case. A young woman complains of acute cystitis, which appears the day after each sexual intercourse. Examination by a urologist showed that the patient’s urethra is too low. An operation was performed to transpose (move) the urethra, after which the symptoms of cystitis disappeared.
What happened. Due to improper location of the urethra during sexual intercourse, the penis pushes the bacteria that live on the head of the penis, into the vagina and into the bladder. As a result, acute cystitis occurs within 24–36 hours after intercourse.
Urine Flow Disorder
Clinical case. A 60-year-old woman complains of persistent episodes of cystitis. The survey revealed a prolapse of the uterus. An operation was performed, after which the cystitis stopped bothering the patient.
What happened. The omission of the pelvic organs leads to a violation of the emptying of the bladder. In urine residues, bacteria begin to multiply, which lead to permanent recurrences of cystitis.
As a rule, the prolapse of the pelvic organs occurs in women after a difficult delivery or with age, when the tissues supporting the organs in a normal state lose their elasticity. Tumors, diverticula (hernia) of the bladder can also lead to a violation of the outflow of urine.
Consequences of childbirth, injuries and operations
Clinical case. Chronic cystitis occurred in a woman after the removal of the uterus. The survey found a fistula between the bladder and the rectum. An operation to eliminate the fistula, followed by a cure for cystitis.
What happened. From the rectum into the bladder fell fecal particles that caused inflammation. Usually this kind of fistula is not difficult to diagnose – often the patient himself notices urine excretion from the anus during a bowel movement. But if the patient suffers from frequent constipation, it can be imperceptible – the urine does not flow from the anus, but simply softens the feces.
Clinical case. After treatment of acute cystitis, the patient complains that the symptoms of the disease have become blurred, but not completely disappeared. When urinating there is discomfort, which passes quickly. The patient’s urine analysis is normal, but vaginal metaplasia of the bladder mucosa was detected during cystoscopy and biopsy. An operation for vaporization (steaming) of a modified mucous membrane area has been proposed.
What happened. In acute cystitis, the bladder mucosa is damaged. The body directs all forces to repair the problem area, however, since it is necessary to restore the mucous membrane quickly, it happens that the “patch” turns out to be of poor quality. The changed part of the mucous membrane cannot fully perform its protective function, therefore a small part of the urine gets on the nerve endings, which causes pain.
Since mucosal changes do not cause any harm to health, you can leave them without treatment. Such changes do not degenerate into cancer, so you should not worry about it.
Is it true?
+ To avoid cystitis, you need to wear warm underwear. Hypothermia can actually trigger the onset of cystitis. When hypothermia suffers local immunity, and the bacteria that live in the anus and vagina and for the time being do not cause any harm, begin to actively proliferate. But exactly where hypothermia happened is not so important. Therefore, cystitis may appear even if you are wearing warm clothes, but you went outside without a hat.
– When cystitis need douching potassium permanganate or furatsilinom. But this is definitely not necessary! When douche antiseptic solution does not penetrate into the bladder, but can cause burns of the mucous membrane of the vagina and urethra.
– Thongs and tight lingerie cause cystitis. This connection is not proven, so choose the clothes that you like.
– To prevent cystitis, you need to drink as much cranberry juice as possible. Morse does not affect the occurrence of cystitis, so drinking or not drinking is a matter of personal predilection. However, if the cystitis has already appeared, it is really necessary to observe the drinking regime and drink at least 1.5 liters of pure water a day – the bladder must be emptied on time.
– With cystitis, you need to sit in a bath with warm water. It relieves spasm and relieves the condition, but does not cure the disease.
+ When cystitis can not eat spicy food and drink alcohol. Both irritate the mucous membrane of the bladder, so for the time of illness these products really should be discarded.
