Runny nose, cough, fever and general weakness are all we used to call a cold. However, the official medicine of such a disease does not know, with the above symptoms, the entry ARVI (acute respiratory viral infection) or ORZ (acute respiratory illness) appears in the patient’s card.
No special medications for colds are usually prescribed – yes, they do not exist, at best, the doctor will advise you to relieve symptoms with paracetamol-based drugs – the main component of all kinds of Cold Rex and Fervex. It is believed that the cold itself will pass, you just have to rest at home.
In fact, such a superficial attitude to their health is not justified. The body needs help in fighting the disease, at least in order to avoid complications. And then you should pay attention to the time-tested folk remedies.
Medium 1: the simplest is tea
Black tea is brewed, lemon and honey are added instead of sugar. The drink is used in the dosage the more, the better. It should not be scorchingly hot, but moderately warm. With unpleasant sensations in the throat, honey is not only added to tea, but also very slowly dissolve, without drinking.
How it works: A warm liquid (as well as the combined action of tannins and caffeine) will expand the blood vessels and activate sweating. Lemon is a natural antiseptic, besides it is rich in vitamin C. Honey, thanks to active enzymes, has a bactericidal effect, promotes the absorption of vitamins and normalizes metabolism.
Medium 2: the most delicious is raspberry
Raspberry tea (100 g of fresh raspberries, 2 spoons of jam, leaves or dried fruits per cup of boiling water, for 15-25 minutes) is an excellent diaphoretic and febrifuge.
The main principles of treatment of any cold:
- a lot of warm drinking to reduce the level of intoxication and to prevent an increase in blood viscosity;
- stimulation of perspiration to resume normal thermoregulation and toxins;
- vitaminization (especially important vitamin C) to maintain the immune response of the body;
- do not bring down the temperature below 38 degrees;
- Ventilate the area regularly for fresh air.
How it works: raspberry contains natural aspirin – salicylic acid. It has a milder, compared with aspirin, action and does not provoke a stomach ulcer. In addition, tannins in its fruits and leaves inhibit the development of local inflammatory processes. Therefore, raspberry tea can not only drink, but gargle them. Also in raspberry, as well as in other traditional anti-cold remedies, there is a lot of vitamin C.
Remedy 3: the most fragrant – garlic
Mix garlic pulp or juice with honey in a 1: 1 ratio and take 1-2 teaspoons twice a day with a glass of water. Also garlic in the amount of 3-4 cloves can be crushed, pour a glass of water and boil for 15-20 minutes. It turns out shock means for inhalation (breathe, eyes closed). Bury the juice of garlic in the nose, contrary to many recommendations, it is not necessary, as this can cause a burn of the mucous. Garlic, indeed, helps relieve nasal congestion. To do this, you need to grind, wrap in a bandage and hold each nostril for 5-7 minutes.
How it works: garlic has a lot of phytoncides – a kind of natural antibiotics.
Remedy 4: the whitest is milk
To a liter of milk, add 4-5 tablespoons of honey, half a teaspoon of vanilla, nutmeg and cinnamon, several peas of allspice and bay leaf. The mixture is brought to a boil and infused for about 5 minutes.
How it works: Milk contains tryptophan, necessary for the synthesis of powerful sedative – serotonin. In addition, milk contains a large number of beneficial enzymes that support immunity.
Remedy 5: mulled wine
In a red sweet wine (1 liter) add cloves, sweet peppers, 3-4 spoons of sugar (better than honey), half a teaspoon of nutmeg. Cinnamon, vanilla and cardamom – to taste. Then cut the savory apple, lemon and add them to the spiced wine. Bring mulled wine to a boil, insist 15-25 minutes and drink warm. Such a drink is an excellent preventive measure against colds.
How it works: wine is a good antiseptic, in addition, it is rich in useful amino acids and vitamins. In turn, the spices have a warming effect and improve blood circulation, and in sour apples and lemon there is a lot of vitamin C. The healing properties of mulled wine are given by the whole complex of its components. In this case, strong alcoholic beverages should not be treated. From them, a weakened body will do more harm than good.
Means 6: the most extreme – starvation
Some adepts of medical fasting advise at the first sign of a cold to completely abandon food for a period of 2 to 4 days. You can drink the liquid.
How it works: it is believed that the lack of food activates the body’s defenses, directs them all to fight the disease. However, traditional medicine to this method of treatment of viral infections is extremely negative, because during the cold, you need additional intake of fluids, vitamins, trace elements and nutrients. In the conditions of their deficiency, the reaction of a weakened organism can be unpredictable.
Remedy 7: the hottest is red pepper
It is believed that ancient Indian healers were the first to use pepper for colds. The recipe is simple: chew half a bitter red pepper and drink 50 g of vodka with it, or add a coffee spoon of ground pepper to vodka and drink it in one gulp. The disadvantage of the method is that it is not suitable for children and adults suffering from heart and liver diseases. However, they can add pepper to tea.
How it works: hot pepper has a vasodilating effect. In addition, he – a source of vitamin C. Vodka in this recipe plays the role of anesthetic. It smoothes the discomfort of burning pepper. A small amount of alcohol also contributes to the expansion of blood vessels, resulting in improved blood flow and, for some time, overall health
Choosing a remedy to fight colds, it is worth remembering that natural products have contraindications. Honey has diabetes. People suffering from diseases of the gastrointestinal tract need to be careful with lemon, red pepper and garlic. Raspberry decoctions are not suitable for cores and hypertensive patients. Thus, in case of chronic diseases or very bad state of health, do not self-medicate and consult your doctor at the first sign of a cold.
