Bearberry from cystitis

Bearberry or bear ears – a small shrub of the heather family. The plant has long been used in traditional medicine for the treatment of inflammation of the bladder – cystitis. All parts of bearberry – flowers, berries and leaves – are endowed with healing properties. They are harvested, dried and used for the preparation of medicinal decoctions and teas.

Therapeutic effect of bearberry

Healing potions made from bear ears help to alleviate the condition in the acute form of cystitis and in its chronic course during the exacerbation. The plant has a positive effect on the body, because it is characterized by actions:

  • disinfectant;
  • anti-inflammatory;
  • diuretic;
  • astringent;
  • sedative.

The use of bearberry medications helps to relieve urinary tract infections. The plant contains arbutin, so it is endowed with antiseptic properties. This bitter substance can suppress pathogens of urological infections and turn them into harmless microorganisms.

Bearberry is filled with tannins that help the body overcome the inflammatory process. Their astringent action helps to increase the density and impermeability of the mucous membrane of the bladder affected by the disease. With the help of tannic compound free radicals – the perpetrators of the destruction of living cells – are blocked.

In the ears of a bear there are flavonoids – natural substances that regulate the activity of the body. They are able to activate diuresis, thereby increasing the excretion of sodium ions and chlorine. Under the action of flavonoids, even the most resistant bacteria that cause disease are destroyed. These natural substances can remove pain and spasms, relax the walls of the bladder.

Ursolic acid – another component of bearberry – has a diuretic effect, which reduces the development of stagnation. It slows down the activity of enzymes that act as catalysts for the destructive processes in the bladder.
