Esophagitis is one of the most common pathologies affecting the organs of the digestive tract. As a rule, more often it concerns the esophagus. Reflux (or the return of food), for example, can occur in violation of the muscle valve, which closes the passage between the esophagus and the stomach (cardiac sphincter). Due to its insolvency, part of the food, together with the gastric juice, returns back to the esophagus, causing heartburn and discomfort in the throat, epigastric region and mouth cavity. When this pathology is diagnosed, one of the elements of the treatment process is a diet with reflux esophagitis, which, depending on the accompanying pathologies, is often referred to as the “Table No. 1” or “Table No. 5”.
The essence of the diet with reflux esophagitis
Our gastrointestinal tract is originally developed by nature for the processing of incoming food. Therefore, if it is damaged, the first thing that needs to be done is to review your diet, as well as the number and mode of meals. The essence of the diet with reflux esophagitis is that there is a significant limitation on the permissible use of the products and methods of their preparation.
In this case, the patient suffering from this pathology should eat at least four or six times a day, the consumed portions must be of a small volume. The last meal should not be held later than three to four hours before the expected bedtime.
It should also refrain from daytime sleep immediately after the stomach is filled with food. It should take about an hour to sit or move slightly, but it should not be tilted and heavy exercise. Only after that you can lie down. Such an approach would allow to intensify the evacuation of food from the stomach into the intestine, which will make it possible to reduce the risk of returning a portion of food and stomach acid to the esophagus.
To the preparation of food allowed products that can not become catalysts for heartburn. But at the same time food should be balanced and "not recommended products" must be replaced by "permissible" and equivalent in energy intensity.
Do not allow overeating, too overloading your digestive tract increased load.
Our body is individual. Therefore, it may react differently to a single product. In order to recognize heartburn provocateurs directly for a particular organism, one should observe which of the products is such a pathological response of the stomach. Maybe it’s fresh vegetables. Then you should try to heat treat them. For example, a baked apple is tasty and healthy, while it does not cause unpleasant sensations in the epigastric region. You can consume berries and fruits in the form of compotes and souffles.
In the event of an aggravation of the pathological process, usually the attending doctor transfers the patient to the dietary “Table No. 1” – this is a fairly strict diet with significant restrictions.
In addition to those already voiced, there are also a number of general recommendations:
- Immediately before the meal it is worth drinking a glass of clean cold, pre-boiled water. This will reduce the acidity level slightly and prevent food from returning.
- Do not take alcohol before meals.
- Food temperature should be moderate: not too high and not too low.
- It is also possible to reduce the probability of reflux by eating several pieces of potato tuber before eating (the root crop is cleaned and consumed raw). It can be replaced by two kernels of walnut, a small slice of white bread, or one-fourth glass of potato juice.
- It is necessary to forget about the habit, to eat at night – it only provokes another attack of heartburn.
- If the attack of reflux esophagitis occurs with severe pain symptoms, then such a patient should be eaten while standing, and after a meal for at least three hours, do not take a prone position. You can walk or sit. In this position, food gets into the stomach faster and also, in a more limited period of time, is excreted from the stomach into the intestine.
- Before you go to bed (in the evening) you can drink a decoction made from apothecary chamomile. It is easy to get it at home using the classic method: a glass of freshly boiled water is taken on a tablespoon of grass. This solution is placed in a water bath and aged for 15 minutes. After it cools down, it can be drained. The composition is ready for use. Chamomile has anti-inflammatory characteristics, is able to have a calming effect both on the gastrointestinal mucosa and on the nervous system. Therefore, sleep after a glass of tincture will be stronger and more complete.
- It should also exclude the wearing of tight and tight straps at the waist. Especially this recommendation is relevant in case of exacerbation of the disease. Squeezing the digestive tract, the belt can cause another reflux attack.
And now it is necessary to get acquainted in more detail with products that are welcomed on the patient’s table, and which should temporarily or permanently disappear from his diet.
Diet with reflux esophagitis and gastritis
If a person periodically gets burp, bringing heartburn with him in the epigastric region, esophagus and oral cavity – this is a signal from the body to seek the advice of a specialist, a doctor – a gastroenterologist. He will conduct the necessary research, and only having obtained a complete picture of the disease, can he make a diagnosis.
If gastritis is diagnosed with esophagitis, the attending doctor imposes mandatory restrictions on nutrition. Diet with reflux esophagitis and gastritis is quite consonant with the requirements that have already been specified above.
Predominantly such patients are assigned dietary “Table No. 1” (in more rare cases, the doctor may attribute “Table No. 5”).
“Table No. 1” was developed for patients suffering from gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer, chronic gastritis with dyspeptic symptoms.
"Table number 5" – pathological damage to the liver and biliary tract.
Nutrition for gastritis and esophagitis implies a restriction in the products listed above. In this case, the stomach, against the background of the disease, should not be very full, especially overeating is unacceptable.
It should be eaten gradually, half filling the stomach. Such an approach to food intake will make it possible not to go hungry, which is also dangerous in this disease and at the same time not burdening the diseased organ.
It is desirable if the day of such a patient begins with a kissel or a banana. They will launch the stomach. Kissel has enveloping properties, which is important in this situation. Suit and low-fat yogurt or light curd. Main meals can be more substantial, but also not heavy. These are light soups and puree soups, milk porridges and mash porridge.
At lunch and lunch you can eat a baked apple or pumpkin with an apple. It is not only tasty, but also useful.
Diet for catarrhal reflux esophagitis
Esophagitis is a disease that is an inflammatory process that affects the esophageal mucosa. The most common is its catarrhal form, which leads to swelling and hyperemia of the inner wall of the esophagus, up to the muscular valve that separates it from the stomach.
This clinical picture requires mandatory medical intervention, one of the elements of which is a diet for catarrhal reflux esophagitis.
In this case, diet food is gentle. Predominantly, the doctor designates such a patient “Table No. 1” according to Pevzner.
The main purpose of this restriction is to reduce irritation and arrest the inflammatory process in the esophageal mucosa. It is designed for normal production of gastric secretion and activation of the motility of the digestive system.
Diet number 1 is balanced and allows a person to get the daily rate of all necessary substances, while the load on the gastrointestinal tract is negligible. Foods that stimulate gastric secretion, are difficult to process, are too hot and too cold are removed from the diet, as well as those that are irritating to the mucosa of the tract.
Table number 1 involves the reception of small portions in volume, but five – six times throughout the day. The interval between meals should not exceed four hours. The last meal should be no later than an hour and a half before bedtime, but it is desirable that this interval be maintained more. Immediately before bedtime (last meal), it is allowed to drink a glass of kefir, ryazhenka, low-fat yogurt.
Most of the dishes that make up diet No. 1 are mostly mashed, pureed, liquid, kashyc-like. Boiled or steamed fish and light meat pieces are allowed. You can bake such foods, but eat without skin.
From the diet should be removed products that cause increased gas formation and irritating to the mucosa of the esophagus and other parts of the digestive tract.
Hard and not quite ripe vegetables, fruits and berries, cartilage tissues, poultry, meat and fish skin, as well as bakery products from wholemeal flour are undesirable to eating.
Lean meat (only lean) in the form of dumplings, meatballs, soufflé, chops:
- Veal and turkey.
- Rabbit and chicken.
- Pork and lamb.
Low-fat fish (mostly sea).
Any porridge on the water (mashed) or milk.
Various soups, but cooked in water, not in heavy broth.
- Boiled pasta.
- Mashed potatoes.
- Vegetable stew.
Almost all dairy and dairy products with a low percentage of fat.
- Salads, on the basis of boiled vegetables.
- Steamed omelets.
- Meat and fish pastes.
- Jellied fish or beef tongue.
- Any refined vegetable oil.
- Butter without added salt.
Diet with erosive reflux esophagitis
If the patient is diagnosed with erosive esophagitis, you should reconsider your diet. It should be gentle to the eroded mucous membrane of the digestive tract. The developed diet with erosive reflux esophagitis should not irritate the tissues of the digestive system and not stimulate the production of gastric secretion (hydrochloric acid), the increased content of which adversely affects the tissues, bringing them more and more harm. Products allowed in it should not allow a decrease in the tone of the esophageal sphincter, provoking a reflux return of food. Meals should be easy to process and recycle, not staying long in the stomach.
Nutrition, as in the previous cases, is fractional, but frequent. That is, five or six meals in small portions. All food must be warm: not too hot or too cold. High and low temperatures provoke thermal irritation, which is unacceptable for the disease in question.
Almost all dishes must be pureed, chopped, soft and easily digestible. In this case, the stomach should not feel heavy after eating, but must be half filled. Overeating and hard to digest food is not allowed.
Method of preparation: stewing, boiling, steaming and baking.
The list of permitted and prohibited products is quite consistent with the one that was presented in this article above.
At the time of the passage of medical therapy should, if possible, give up smoking and taking various alcoholic beverages, which are powerful mucous irritants.
Keeping all recommendations in the diet, will significantly reduce the period of therapy and further recovery. Such nutrition will allow not only to stop esophagitis, but also, to a certain extent, to improve the patient’s entire body.
Diet with exacerbation of esophagitis reflux
The period of exacerbation in any pathology is a dangerous and crucial moment, bringing the patient a lot of uncomfortable minutes and hours. In terms of the problem under consideration, exacerbation of esophagitis is especially noticeable. When you eat any food, the patient feels a sharp pain, the appetite falls, the desire to eat disappears. But this is not permissible, because the body needs energy and nutrients to enhance immunity and the ability to fight the disease.
In the light of the fact that just the food brings the patient the greatest discomfort and even more irritates the mucous membrane of the digestive tract, the diet during exacerbation of esophagitis reflux involves the introduction of fairly severe dietary restrictions. Absolutely all fruits, berries and vegetables are excluded from it. The patient is transferred to the light mucous porridge cooked in water. They are energetically low-cost for the body. At the same time, their mucous base envelops the internal walls of the gastrointestinal tract, which protects them from the action of acid, which is produced by gastric secretions for food digestion. Basically, these porridges are prepared on the basis of rice grains and oats. During this period, the patient’s diet can diversify derivatives of dairy products: low-fat grated curds, yogurt, yogurt, ryazhenka, kefir. Fermented milk substances activate digestion of food and normalize the balance of microflora in the intestine. From the liquid, preference should be given to clean water, broths of wild rose berries and medicinal herbs (based on chamomile, calendula, sage, and others), which have healing, anti-inflammatory properties that have a calming effect on the mucous membrane. But do not self-medicate. Everything, including herbs, should only be written by an expert. After all, many people do not even think that if medicinal herbs are able to heal, then, accordingly, if used incorrectly, they are able to cause harm. There are a number of rules that should be followed if the patient wants to stop the problem faster:
It should be replaced three times a day for five – six daily meals.
The volume of food consumed during one meal should be small to satisfy hunger, but not to overeat, filling the stomach by only one third. So the body will receive nutrients and energy, but the digestive tract will not be overloaded.
To reduce the likelihood of reflux esophagitis symptoms, 30 minutes before the expected meal you should drink 200 ml of cool pure water. It will dilute gastric secretion, making it less concentrated. In this case, a glass of liquid, taking up part of the volume of the stomach, will not allow eating more food than is necessary. During the process of eating, you should follow the accepted rules of nutrition:
- Chew well, chop food.
- Eat slowly.
- During the meal, you should not talk or divert your attention to the game in the laptop, watching a television program, reading a book or newspaper. 3. Immediately after the end of the meal is not recommended to take a prone position. Such an act only increases the risk of returnable contents of the stomach back into the esophagus. It is better to sit or move, while avoiding sharp bends and heavy physical exertion.
- During this period should not be worn at the waist tight straps. They crush the epigastric region, making it difficult for food to pass through the digestive tract and cause the release of gastric juice into the esophagus. The same applies to narrow uncomfortable clothes.
Menu diet with reflux esophagitis
If a person already has experience in drawing up a daily menu for diagnosing the disease in question, it will not be difficult for him to paint it again. But if there is no such experience, then at first it will be difficult to do it. We are ready to offer several options for the day menu diet with reflux esophagitis, using which it will be much easier for the patient to understand his principle and later learn to make it up himself.
- Soft-boiled egg.
- Loose tea with milk.
