Reflux Esophagitis Diet

Esophagitis is one of the most common pathologies affecting the organs of the digestive tract. As a rule, more often it concerns the esophagus. Reflux (or the return of food), for example, can occur in violation of the muscle valve, which closes the passage between the esophagus and the stomach (cardiac sphincter). Due to its insolvency, part of the food, together with the gastric juice, returns back to the esophagus, causing heartburn and discomfort in the throat, epigastric region and mouth cavity. When this pathology is diagnosed, one of the elements of the treatment process is a diet with reflux esophagitis, which, depending on the accompanying pathologies, is often referred to as the “Table No. 1” or “Table No. 5”.

The essence of the diet with reflux esophagitis

Our gastrointestinal tract is originally developed by nature for the processing of incoming food. Therefore, if it is damaged, the first thing that needs to be done is to review your diet, as well as the number and mode of meals. The essence of the diet with reflux esophagitis is that there is a significant limitation on the permissible use of the products and methods of their preparation.

In this case, the patient suffering from this pathology should eat at least four or six times a day, the consumed portions must be of a small volume. The last meal should not be held later than three to four hours before the expected bedtime.

It should also refrain from daytime sleep immediately after the stomach is filled with food. It should take about an hour to sit or move slightly, but it should not be tilted and heavy exercise. Only after that you can lie down. Such an approach would allow to intensify the evacuation of food from the stomach into the intestine, which will make it possible to reduce the risk of returning a portion of food and stomach acid to the esophagus.

To the preparation of food allowed products that can not become catalysts for heartburn. But at the same time food should be balanced and "not recommended products" must be replaced by "permissible" and equivalent in energy intensity.

  • It is also possible to reduce the probability of reflux by eating several pieces of potato tuber before eating (the root crop is cleaned and consumed raw). It can be replaced by two kernels of walnut, a small slice of white bread, or one-fourth glass of potato juice.
  • It is necessary to forget about the habit, to eat at night – it only provokes another attack of heartburn.
  • If the attack of reflux esophagitis occurs with severe pain symptoms, then such a patient should be eaten while standing, and after a meal for at least three hours, do not take a prone position. You can walk or sit. In this position, food gets into the stomach faster and also, in a more limited period of time, is excreted from the stomach into the intestine.
  • Before you go to bed (in the evening) you can drink a decoction made from apothecary chamomile. It is easy to get it at home using the classic method: a glass of freshly boiled water is taken on a tablespoon of grass. This solution is placed in a water bath and aged for 15 minutes. After it cools down, it can be drained. The composition is ready for use. Chamomile has anti-inflammatory characteristics, is able to have a calming effect both on the gastrointestinal mucosa and on the nervous system. Therefore, sleep after a glass of tincture will be stronger and more complete.

The main purpose of this restriction is to reduce irritation and arrest the inflammatory process in the esophageal mucosa. It is designed for normal production of gastric secretion and activation of the motility of the digestive system.

Diet number 1 is balanced and allows a person to get the daily rate of all necessary substances, while the load on the gastrointestinal tract is negligible. Foods that stimulate gastric secretion, are difficult to process, are too hot and too cold are removed from the diet, as well as those that are irritating to the mucosa of the tract.

Table number 1 involves the reception of small portions in volume, but five – six times throughout the day. The interval between meals should not exceed four hours. The last meal should be no later than an hour and a half before bedtime, but it is desirable that this interval be maintained more. Immediately before bedtime (last meal), it is allowed to drink a glass of kefir, ryazhenka, low-fat yogurt.

Most of the dishes that make up diet No. 1 are mostly mashed, pureed, liquid, kashyc-like. Boiled or steamed fish and light meat pieces are allowed. You can bake such foods, but eat without skin.

From the diet should be removed products that cause increased gas formation and irritating to the mucosa of the esophagus and other parts of the digestive tract.

Hard and not quite ripe vegetables, fruits and berries, cartilage tissues, poultry, meat and fish skin, as well as bakery products from wholemeal flour are undesirable to eating.

Nutrition, as in the previous cases, is fractional, but frequent. That is, five or six meals in small portions. All food must be warm: not too hot or too cold. High and low temperatures provoke thermal irritation, which is unacceptable for the disease in question.

Almost all dishes must be pureed, chopped, soft and easily digestible. In this case, the stomach should not feel heavy after eating, but must be half filled. Overeating and hard to digest food is not allowed.
